Volkswind has begun earthworks for the Burbach II wind farm on the Bautenberg. Over the coming months, two wind turbines with a combined capacity of 12.4 megawatts will be built there.

Delivery of the components for the wind energy project is scheduled for the end of August, followed by the erection of the two turbines. The wind farm is expected to be completed in late autumn 2026. Once commissioned, the turbines, with a hub height of 119 metres, are expected to generate around 27.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. That is enough to supply approximately 6,900 four-person households, based on calculated consumption.

Construction follows several years of project development. The wind farm received planning approval in June 2024, and the project was also successful in last year’s auction under Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). With work now under way, Volkswind is moving into the implementation phase.

Burbach II is Volkswind’s second project in the municipality. The company officially commissioned Burbach I, with a capacity of 3.45 megawatts, in 2025.

“Exactly one year after the official commissioning of Burbach I, we can now start our second project in the region,” says Simeon Ziegeler, Head of Project Development at Volkswind. “Our collaboration with the municipality, the landowners and our construction partners worked smoothly on the first project. That provides an important foundation, and we look forward to bringing this project to completion together.”
