Today, Thursday, Axpo held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Lålax wind farm in the municipality of Vörå. This project marks a significant milestone in Axpo’s commitment to the expansion of wind energy in Finland. The construction is part of the broader plan to convert the country’s energy production to renewable sources and support Finland’s goal of climate neutrality by 2035.

The Lålax wind farm will comprise four Vestas V-162 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.2 MW and a hub height of 134 metres. The planned total capacity is 24.8 megawatts, with an expected annual electricity production of around 70 million kilowatt hours – enough to supply around 14,000 Finnish households with clean energy. The wind farm is scheduled to go into operation in autumn 2025.

“The location of the new wind project is ideal for us,” said Joakim Ingves, Head of Axpo’s wind activities in Finland. “Our team in Vaasa, only 25 kilometres away, will closely monitor the construction to ensure on-time completion. This project brings numerous benefits to the region, including the creation of new jobs.”

With the construction of the Lålax wind farm, Axpo is reaffirming its strategic role in the expansion of renewable energies in Europe and contributing to Finland’s long-term climate goals. According to government plans, the country wants to be climate-neutral by 2035.
