Fresh wind for old turbines

Volkswind aims to increase the share of wind energy in the energy mix by not only building new wind farms but also focusing on repowering existing wind turbines. Repowering involves replacing older turbines with fewer but more powerful models to maximize efficiency and yield.

By replacing outdated turbines with modern models, we can optimize the use of existing sites while producing more electricity on the same area. Over the past decades, wind turbine technology has advanced significantly. For instance, higher hub heights allow for the utilization of stronger winds. Larger rotors rotate more slowly, creating a harmonious visual impact on the landscape. These innovations not only enhance the use of existing sites but also ensure that our wind farms remain state-of-the-art.

Benefits for residents:

Continuous advancements in the aerodynamics of rotor blades have significantly reduced noise emissions. Modern turbines are therefore quieter and less disruptive for nearby residents.

The removal of older turbines, particularly those near residential areas, in favor of fewer but more powerful wind turbines improves the landscape while allowing for optimized site layouts that align with spatial planning requirements.

Demand-driven nighttime marking minimizes the blinking of turbines at night, significantly reducing visual disturbances for residents.

Benefits for operators:

Repowering ensures a new compensation rate, valid for the next 20 years.

Residents in areas with existing turbines tend to have a positive attitude toward new, more efficient wind turbines due to their long-standing experience. This fosters greater acceptance of wind energy within the local community.

The use of modern wind turbines significantly increases electricity production per unit. This efficiency boost results in substantial revenue advantages for operators.

Benefits for Municipalities:

Higher yields from new wind turbines provide financial benefits to municipalities, boosting their budgets.

Repowering allows for the removal of older turbines and their replacement with more powerful models, enabling a technically and visually optimized park layout.

Repowering actively contributes to the energy transition by increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix. This positive development positions municipalities as leaders in sustainable energy production and environmental protection.

How do we optimize a wind farm with repowering ?

By focusing on repowering, we are committed to the sustainable development of wind energy, optimizing energy production while considering the needs of the environment, landscape, and local communities.

Operational Management

A wind farm must run. Only well-maintained and operational turbines achieve optimal yields.
