Wind energy tender: Volkswind wins contract again

Volkswind secures fixed electricity price remuneration for two wind power projects in Germany

Positive news from our project development in Germany: Volkswind has once again been awarded a contract in the latest tender of the Federal Network Agency for onshore wind turbines. In this way, the company secures a fixed electricity price remuneration for the “Kirchhundem” wind power project in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The “Kirchhundem wind farm” project consists of a total of 5 V150 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6 MW. The total capacity of the wind farm will be 30 MW. Construction work is scheduled to start in the second half of 2024.

The location of the wind farm in the Sauerland region, in the district of Olpe, makes the project remarkable. According to its own description, the “greenest municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia” will thus be enriched by a sustainable energy source. The idyllic location on the Rothaarsteig long-distance hiking trail provides an impressive backdrop for the new Volkswind wind farm, which is expected to go into operation in 2025.

The Kirchhundem wind farm is already the second project for which Volkswind has been awarded a contract this year. Back in August, the wind farm developer secured the feed-in tariff for another wind turbine with a capacity of 3.45 MW in North Rhine-Westphalia. The turbine, with a hub height of 116.5 metres, is to be built in the municipality of Burbach in the district of Siegen Wittgenstein. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2024.

Winning the auctions is an important milestone for Volkswind’s project development in Germany and a positive signal for the future. After years of almost stagnating expansion in Germany, there is now a trend reversal in the expansion of wind power in Germany.  These positive developments are based on numerous legislative packages that the Federal Government has initiated. With the “Wind on Land Act”, which came into force in February, and other amendments to the law, politicians want to speed up the expansion of wind energy in Germany. In addition, it has significantly increased the expansion targets for renewable energies with the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). In 2030, 80 percent of the electricity consumed in Germany is to come from renewable energies.
